James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word.

Audition dates were Sunday, June 4th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Tri-City United (TCU) Middle School Auditorium in Montgomery and Monday, June 5th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Prague Theatre in downtown New Prague.

Casting for 19 actors (12 female and 7 male).

Please bring sheet music for a song you have already learned (preferably from a Broadway Musical). A piano player will be provided at auditions to accompany you.

Do not use a song from the show.

Do not sing to taped music or sing a cappella.

You do not have to sing an entire song. We only want to get an idea of how well you can carry a tune and follow accompaniment. Sixteen to 32 measures should be sufficient. If you are "called back" for a principal role on callback night, we will ask you to sing and do cold reading from the show.
